The grapes for this wine grow in the highest section of the Sea Eagle vineyard in Finniss River, a sub region of the Adelaide Hills about 25 km southeast of McLaren Vale. The Alttus is exclusively produced in best years, and only released after a longer ripening period in the bottle. The soils are typically gravel and sand over red and orange sandstone and the vineyard falls gently away towards the northwest providing ideal exposure, warm days ensure ripe fruit flavors while the cooling breezes, which roll off the Southern Ocean in the late-afternoon, ensure excellent acid retention. In all: Finniss River is a unique South Australian microclimate. Sea level 125 m.
